I was thinking about how great exercise is for the body and mind, how it can set up your day for the better and even make you a stronger and mor resilient person!
I believe there is not much benefit from working out and having negative thoughts simultaneously. In fact, it could leave you feeling worse (I know, I have done it and it does not give you the high after exercising)
Your thoughts creat you world! They will create your happiness, your body, your relationships, finances and so on. So for me, the best way to "shake it off", get out of a slump or just feel even better is to exercise with purpose, intention, awareness and power.
Set a purpose to train to feel better, for your health, for fun (I recommend steering away from aesthetic reasons!!)
Set an intention to have an amazing training sesh/run/swim, enjoy it and do your best
Be aware of your body, core and breathing. Tune in to it as it feels amazing and can stop negative thoughts coming in
Use your self talk with intention to create a powerful body and mind experience. This is the key. How do you do this? Use words and phrases that make you feel good. I will share what I do, but your words must resonate with YOU.
My favourite phrases:
I AM STRONG
I CAN DO THIS
I AM LIGHT
I AM AWESOME
Squeeze your abs and core (deep pelvic floor muscles) because this is also your "core" of who you are; your inner strength!
So this is something I have done since I can remember, and that is why exercise has been such a powerful tool for me to stay positive, overcome challenging times and really enjoy working out.
And I repeat these over and over, I do not let anything else enter.
